Safety at Sea

All children like to play at the seaside, building sandcastles, swimmming, paddling in inflatables. To prevent accidents children should remember the word SPLASHED and what each letter stands for.

For Schools

The following is courtesy of the RNLI.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), an average of 1,500 children get into difficulties in the water every year with around 60 children losing their lives. To help in reducing this figue the RNLI has produced All ABOARD, a new and free citizenship and PSHE educational resource for 7-11 year olds to help teachers steer a course in sea safety and prepare them for a sizzling summer by the sea.

Teacher’s notes, magazines for pupils, booklets for parents and a colour poster all provide a wealth of information for a fascinating voyage of discovery into the RNLI. Tecchie whizzkids can get to grips with the specialist equipment used on board the latest lifeboats and, for those who enjoy the seaside, there are some great ideas on how to have fun, look cool and stay safe.

Stocks of the all ABOARD pack are limited so if you would like a copy of the pack for your school or youth organisation then please contact the RNLI by email: education@rnli.org.uk or telephone: 01202 663000.

All ABOARD! There’s something for everyone…
