Ladies' GuildThe Guild or Fundraising branch of the Station exists to raise money for the RNLI. Mrs Anne Gowan MBE is the President of the Ladies' Guild. The Vice President is Mrs Helen Daniels, Chairman Mrs Carol Horne, Treasurer Mrs June Fuller, and Secretary Mrs Joyce Pownall. There is a committee of 30 active members. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at the Station and are very well attended. Money is raised in several ways, including coffee mornings and social events. A Lifeboat Ball is held in January every year and in 2007 raised £10,000. Store collections are held at all the major supermarkets and at the Racecourse. We hold a flag day in the town once a year and also do house to house collections. We receive donations from schools etc. Auctions are a good way to fundraise, recently we raised nearly £7000 at one. In addition we receive legacies and "in memoriams". We have a lot of local support who regularly turn out for events and buy our draw tickets. We have a supportive local press who will publish photographs of our events and help raise awareness of the need to support the Lifeboats. Opposite are images of members at a monthly committee meeting and at the annual Martime Festival. 2010 Lifeboat BallThe annual Lifeboat Ball was a terrific start to 2010 for the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Ladies Lifeboat Guild of the RNLI, raising over £10,000. The Ball at the Oceans Room in Gorleston followed a record year in fundraising that bought in £115,000, and was supported by 460 guests with the lifeboat crew in attendance. An auction, courtesy of Guardline Shipping and Eastport UK, raised £1350, and the Mayor of Great Yarmouth thanked everyone for their continued loyal support for the lifeboat, which was again the busiest on the east coast in 2009.
